Change Of Weather At CNN International

Guillermo Arduino has left the CNN International weather team for a full-time anchor position at sister network CNN en Español.

Arduino has been tapped to anchor Mirador Mundial, a 60 minute weekend news bulletin. He will continue to host CNN en Español's technology news show Clix, and will still be a presence on CNN International as he retains hosting duties of the monthly World View and iReport for CNN.

Arduino, a 12 year veteran at CNN International, was farewelled following his final weather hit on World Report Thursday.

As a result of Guillermo Arduino's departure from the international weather team, Jennifer Delgado moves from overnight weather duties to dayside.

Announcing the move on Twitter earlier this week, Delgado said:

World Cup On CNN International

While most football fans have their attentions focused on the field at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, some memorable (or not so memorable - you decide) moments have occurred on CNN International during the network's first couple of days of coverage. Videos below for those who may have missed them.

It ain't easy being CNN International's Pedro Pinto:

Alcohol, football fans, live news camera - should've seen this one coming!:

The Latest Observations...

- Rosemary Church is headed to her home continent of Australia for a short break. BackStory's Michael Holmes will be filling for her on the first weekend block of shows.

- New York-based photojournalist Emmanuel Tambakakis was injured recently while in Greece. TVNewser has the story.

- In case you missed it, Tony Harris (anchor of CNN Newsroom on CNN Domestic) broke out in a little Michael Jackson a while back. They showed the video to him and here is his reaction (look for a great Kyra Phillips appearance):

International Desk Launches Monday on CNNI

International Desk brings viewers into the heart of the largest news gathering operation in the world. Viewers don't come here to "watch" the news; they come here to be immersed in it, to feel the rush of being the first to know what's happening as stories break, and to leave knowing they've gotten the best and latest information available.

We're hearing rumors of who the host of this new show might be... actually, we might just know who it is. ;) But we want to know who YOU think it should be!

CNN International from CNN En Español Studios This Weekend

This weekend portions of CNN International's World News programming was being broadcast from the studios of CNN En Español. This was because they were doing some studio lighting and camera work.

Later on in the day on Saturday and Sunday they were back in the CNN/I studio because of CNN En Español's Mirador Mundial broadcasting live from that studio.

It may be safe to assume this same work is going on in London and Hong Kong this weekend, although it hasn't been confirmed to us.

Here you'll see a photo of Rosemary Church broadcasting her World News segment on Saturday morning from the CNN En Español studios.

Update: London's studios are not seeing any results of any work so I don't believe the work was done this weekend. Stay tuned!

Attacks in the UK coverage

A busy couple of days for CNN in the UK. Yesterday just before 0700 gmt, CNN International broke news of a suspected attempted car bombing in Central London. CNN/I stayed in breaking news mode for most of the day and evening, with special reports from CNN bureaus and teams on the ground in London including Charles Hodson, Becky Anderson and International Security Correspondent Paula Newton.

Then today, Rosemary Church broke into the start of International Correspondents at 1500 gmt to cross immediately to CNN/US, who were covering breaking news of what is now being called a terrorist attack at Glasgow Airport near Glasgow, Scotland after a car drove straight through glass doors and into the terminal building, bursting into flames. The aiport is closed and all flights are cancelled. CNN/I continued with its own coverage for the next few hours, with Rosemary Church and later Stephen Frazier in Atlanta, with pictures from Sky News and Alphonso Van Marsh contributing live from London.
Live coverage continued past 1900 gmt. At 1900 gmt, in a rare move, Fionnula Sweeney presented World News from the London studio, where the breaking news coverage conitnued. Usually no live programming comes from the London studio at the weekend.
Stephen Frazier took over in Atlanta at 2000 gmt, and both Stephen and Fionnula were anchoring at 2100 gmt as breaking news coverage continued.
(On a personal level, I'm going to bed now so can't watch any more. My parents were due to fly out of Glasgow Airport tomorrow to visit me in London for the first time in 3 years. I don't see that happening now)

Bush in Albania coverage

President Bush continues his tour of Europe, and CNN/I continues its coverage.

At 1040 gmt, CNN/I came out of the World Sport re-run and Shihab Rattansi in Atlanta took us live to Tirana where President Bush was just starting a press conference with the Albanian Prime Minister. Shihab had been trailing this on World News in the hours leading up to the conference, but it appeared to start 10 minutes earlier than expected.

At 1110 gmt, coverage ended and Rosemary Church was now at the anchor desk in Atlanta, and continued with World News as scheduled.

Inside The Middle East angers Bahrain

This month's Inside The Middle East has caused a bit of a stir. The edition comes from Bahrain, and in the first item, Hala Gorani looks at the "hidden" poor population of Bahrain.

I caught an airing of the programme at 1330 gmt today on CNN/I. The show ended just after 1350 gmt, much earlier than usual. Then, Stephen Frazier at the CNN Centre studio appeared to talk about the first item in the show. He said that the Bahrain government has disputed the contents of the first item of the show. He went on to say that while CNN stands by the report, they felt that the Bahrain government should have the right to reply on CNN/I.

He then introduced an interview conducted by Rosemary Church in Atlanta, talking to a Bahrain government official in Manama who put across the government's view of the items in the report. This lasted around 5 or 6 minutes.

You can watch the show, including the item in question, here
