Business Traveller Returns To CNN International

CNN International today announced the return of its monthly Business Traveller program.

Although new episodes of the show last aired in late 2010, host Richard Quest declared the program was "on hiatus" and its future had not yet been decided during an interview in July last year. The first edition of the new series airs March 15 on CNN International. CNN's press release below.

CNN Press Release: CNN International today announced the return of its award-winning monthly ‘CNN Business Traveller’ programme, which will launch on Thursday 15 March.

‘CNN Business Traveller’ hosted by CNN business and travel expert Richard Quest is the definitive authority on making the most of doing business on the road, and aims to give discerning viewers the edge on their fellow travellers.

Originally broadcast on CNN International between 2002 and 2010, the series now returns in a harsh, more demanding environment to reflect the size, importance and shifting trends of an industry that touches just about every aspect of the global economy.

Each month, Quest will present the show from hotels, airports and cities around the world, bringing his detailed knowledge of surviving out of a suitcase on the world’s corporate highways and byways. Joining him will be resident business travel news correspondent Ayesha Durgahee.

“Since CNN Business Traveller has been away, tough economic times have continued, but so has business travel. I’m delighted that once again, CNN is able to inspire viewers to profit from their travels and broaden their horizons, both in terms of personal enjoyment and business opportunities. This is a fascinating industry – we look forward to the year ahead on the road”, said Matt Percival, Executive Editor, CNN International.

In the first programme, airing Thursday 15 March, Quest is in Singapore to celebrate business travel in a region where growth is rife and trends are set. With the economic winds blowing eastwards, Changi airport s a thriving hub battling for supremacy among Asia’s high-tech airports; it was also the location of the first ever episode of ‘CNN Business Traveller’ so it is a fitting place for the programme to return to in 2012.

‘CNN Business Traveller’ can be seen at the following times on CNN International:

Thursday 15 March at 0730 GMT / 0830 CET
Friday 16 March at 0430 GMT / 0530 CET
Saturday 17 March at 0630 GMT / 0730 CET
Sunday 18 March at 0300 GMT / 0400 CET
Saturday 7 April at 1330 GMT / 1430 CET

Sunday 8 April at 0730 GMT / 0830 CET

The creative uses hyper-real portrait photography of CNN International’s key presenters, including Richard Quest, Hala Gorani, Dan Rivers, Pedro Pinto and Becky Anderson, alongside lines such as “Richard. Your competitive advantage is my business”; “Pedro. Behind every sporting hero, there’s a story”; and “Hala. When we know it, you know it.”

Each of the executions uses the campaign line, “Go beyond borders, wherever you are.”

Posters will form the backbone of the campaign, running across airports in London, Frankfurt, Paris, Stockholm, Abu Dhabi and Johannesburg. Print ads will supplement the posters in key markets, as well as digital executions across a number of major online portals and promos on CNN International itself.

Gillian Power, marketing manager at CNN International, said: “The focus of the campaign is very much on our presenters, and the intelligence, relevance and credibility they have as individuals, but it’s also about our viewers. We want to remind them of the reasons they watch CNN International and the benefits they gain from it.”

The campaign runs from this month until early 2012. The creative agency was Play People, and media was planned and bought by MJ Media and PSI.

New Look, New Shows For CNN International

For the past two months, users at the CNNFan.org forum have been speculating on a graphics revamp coming to CNN International. In a sign that the new look could be imminent, a new CNN International bug has been spotted within the last 12 hours. The apparent new bug appears on an “Impact Your World” report that is airing on the network, as well as streaming on CNN.com (where we grabbed the picture below from)

CNN US introduced a new graphics package in December last year, and some are pointing out the similarities to that package, and the look of the apparent new CNN International bug. There is some speculation that the new look will mostly mirror that of CNN US. If this is the case, it will be the first time both networks have shared a common look since the mid 90’s.

Also in news from CNN International, the first in a series of new programs launching this year will debut on the network over the next fortnight: “Quest Means Business” - Richard Quest's new program - premieres this coming Monday at 1900 GMT, while ‘International Desk” will premiere at 1700 GMT on February 2.

Confirmed?

Earlier we posted what we'd found about some new shows coming to the European Prime-Time Block of CNN International and CNN's response to those findings. One of those ideas was for a new show by CNNI Anchor and Business Traveller host Richard Quest. While it wasn't confirmed by CNN, Richard Quest confirmed a new show this morning via Twitter:

"just starting work...pilots today for new show"

" rehearsing the new show in an hour...still working on new shots."

More details as they become available...
Update (Tuesday 1/13): Quest posted on Twitter that his show will launch around the World Economic Forum in Davos.
"we launch in Davos in two weeks - ar eyou doing to Davos ? c'mon someone

Interesting Observations

CNN/I sent out one of their "CNN/Yougov" Polls to subscribers today, and it included the following new show topics for subscribers to vote on. It was asked which of these two shows voters prefered, so they may be only looking to add one of these two shows to their daily lineup.

The International Situation Room or International Desk
A truly global newscast which will allow viewers to witness news reports from all over the world. It is presented from a visual news studio that will show video, images and graphics from a range of different sources. It will also enable viewers to see and hear many different opinions and points of view on stories and events. Stories will be presented with extra context, background and depth.

Quest!
International correspondent and world traveller Richard Quest will host a daily studio based programme examining news and current affairs from new and unique perspectives. These will be brought to life by special guest interviews and a team of innovative reporters. In addition he would spend a day at a scientology centre as visitors come and go to reveal how scientologists live. The show would include an interview with a special guest – Tom Cruise.

These would both be daily shows.

Thoughts?

Richard Quest In The Situation Room

From Tonight's The Situation Room... good for a laugh.

JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: No. Did you see that? There were two of me on that wall. How is that for frightening? Richard, let me ask you a question. It has to do with security down there. How did Mickey Rooney get anywhere near the queen of England.

QUEST: Now, let's talk about that for a moment.

CAFFERTY: Yeah. Let's do.

QUEST: Well, you see, Mickey Rooney was invited to the queen's garden party at the embassy, which as Wolf will know is a magnificent building. Leutian (ph) Mansion.

CAFFERTY: Answer my question. Is Mickey Rooney the best we could do for a celebrity to meet the queen? I mean, he didn't even know the protocol.

QUEST: You are wrong there, Jack. Once again, you've dug your own hole and you've jumped in it. The queen was delighted to meet Mickey Rooney whom she last met at the premier of "National Velvet" in 1944. Even you might remember that, Mr. Cafferty.
