CNN Press Release: CNN anchors Wolf Blitzer, John King, Erin Burnett, Anderson Cooper and Piers Morgan will provide special coverage of the Illinois Primary during their respective programs. A live edition of Piers Morgan Tonight will broadcast at midnight.
Chief political analyst Gloria Borger and senior political analyst David Gergen will join CNN’s coverage to offer insight and analysis throughout the evening. Chief political correspondent Candy Crowley will report live from Romney campaign headquarters in Illinois and national political correspondent Jim Acosta will provide updates from Santorum headquarters in Pennsylvania. Senior correspondent Joe Johns will report on the Gingrich campaign from Louisiana. Piers Morgan and wife Celia Walden have welcomed the addition of their new baby girl, Elise. It is Morgan's fourth child and first girl. Britain's Daily Mail reports:
This evening, Morgan confirmed on Twitter: 'It's true. I've become a dad for the 4th time, to a baby girl called Elise. She's absurdly beautiful, and utterly adorable.'
The new addition was born at celebrity-favourite Cedars Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills.
Mail on Sunday's Live magazine columnist Celia announced that she was expecting in June.

Piers Morgan Refutes Hacking Allegations On The Situation Room
Piers Morgan has hit back at claims he hacked phones while working as a newspaper editor in the UK, after he was named twice by a British politician during the Parliamentary hearings into the scandal yesterday.
MP Louise Mensch claimed that Morgan had bragged in his book, 'The Insider', about winning "scoop of the year" for a story he only gained knowledge of after hacking phones. Morgan responded to the allegations by saying:
"Well, I'm amused by her cowardice in refusing to repeat that allegation now she's not in Parliament and covered by privilege.
As she may be already aware, she came out with an absolute blatant lie during those proceedings. At no stage in my book or indeed outside of my book have I ever boasted of using phone hacking for any stories.
For the record, in my time at "The Mirror" and the "News of the World," I have never hacked a phone, told anybody to hack a phone or published any story based on the hacking of a phone.
And what she did today was a deliberate, in my view, and outrageous attempt to smear my name, CNN's name, "The Daily Mirror's" name. And I think her now to have the breathtaking gall to just sit here calmly and say, I can't possibly repeat that cause I haven't got privilege, is an outrage."

Earlier this week, Piers Morgan told The Hollywood Reporter that his show has been a work in progress:
"I think that it’s all been trial and error thus far, and I like the errors more than the successes. The successes are pleasing for a few seconds and then you move on. It’s when things don’t work out quite how you thought that are very interesting."

How’s the show going?
It’s been a roller-coaster ride. Some days you get a run of very serious news, or you’re doing big set pieces with celebs. It’s getting the balance right. We’ve made some experimental calls on guests. I would’ve put good money on the Kardashians rating well, and they didn’t. I think the CNN audience, particularly when there are big news stories going on like the Middle East, they don’t like if you interview people they think are pointless. I think all of us felt a little surprised that was the case.

What do you need to get better at?
Probably interrupting guests. Larry King said that, and I think he’s right. Other than that, the promos said I might be dangerous. What I meant is, I wanted to be unpredictable. What I don’t ever want to do is be boring. It’s a fine line between being challenging and going too far where you piss off your guests so much you don’t get any bookings, and you need to straddle it carefully. A lot of journalists sit back and say I should be harder. But it’s a long game.

Do you need a Jay Leno-Hugh Grant moment to get your ratings moving?
Yes. I need to get some big gets. But that's my background, I need to get some scoops. But everyone needs that. Unless you are Bill O'Reilly because you have built such a formidable persona that you don't need that. Letterman and Leno don't really need them. But I'm the new boy, we're trying.

Oprah Winfrey to be first guest on first 'Piers Morgan Tonight' broadcast
Alex Welperin over at TVNewser is reporting that Daytime talk Diva Oprah Winfrey will be the first guest when Piers Morgan Tonight launches January 17th at 9:00 PM ET.
Morgan will announce the news at the Television Critics Association Winter press tour in Los Angeles Thursday afternoon.

In case you missed the flurry of tweets from CNN staffers rolling out the welcome for Piers Morgan this week (his joining Twitter at @PiersMorgan seemed to be the catalyst for the all the commotion on Twitter) Wolf Blitzer duly "introduced" CNN's newest host on Thursday's 'The Situation Room'.
Piers Morgan will host 'Piers Morgan Tonight' at 9pm eastern from early next year. He replaces Larry King, who will air his last regular nightly program on CNN on December 16.
Jonathan Wald Named Executive Producer of CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight
CNN Press Release - Jonathan Wald, former executive producer of NBC's Today and Nightly News, and former senior vice president of CNBC, has been named executive producer of CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight debuting in January 2011, it was announced today by CNN executive vice president Ken Jautz. Wald's appointment is effective immediately.
“Jonathan has spent more than 20 years as a top producer in broadcast and cable television news and has the unique ability to produce television that is smart and provocative,” said Jautz. “We are thrilled that he’ll be joining the CNN family.”
Most recently Wald has been an advisor to AOL on cross-platform programming initiatives. From 2006-2009, Wald served as senior vice president of CNBC, responsible for all business news programming. During a period of unprecedented financial and economic crisis, CNBC expanded business coverage into primetime and weekends, resulting in the highest ratings and revenue in the network’s history. Wald was also responsible for multimedia development and the use of business news on cnbc.com as well as marketing and promotion of that content on all platforms.
Said Wald, “CNN is an important news organization and a powerful worldwide brand. I am so excited to join this team. I can’t wait to get started and to collaborate with Piers on redefining the long-form interview program in primetime.”
Wald, a three-time Emmy Award winner, was the executive producer ofToday where he led the program’s distinguished coverage during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the contested 2000 presidential election, and the first live morning show performance by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Prior to Today, he was the executive producer of NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw where he was responsible for all aspects of the top-rated flagship broadcast.
“Jonathan is tough, funny, smart as hell, incredibly experienced, and wants to win,” said Morgan.
He began his career as a desk assistant at NBC News in 1983 while a freshman at Columbia University, then moved to WBZ-TV (Boston) where he produced every major broadcast including the 11 o'clock news. He returned to New York as a field producer for NBC's Brian Williams in 1993. Wald received a B.A. from Columbia and since 2001, serves on the adjunct faculty at the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. He will now bring his penetrating interview style and gift for unearthing the surprising detail to American television and to CNN viewers around the globe.

Morgan began his career as a reporter for The Wimbledon News and then as a columnist at The Sun. Two years later he moved to the Daily Mirror, where he served as editor-in-chief from 1995 until 2004.
