CNN Press Release - Kate Bolduan will join CNN’s Capitol Hill unit, it was announced today by David Bohrman, senior vice president of programming and Washington bureau chief. Bolduan will begin her new assignment Monday, April 25.

"Since Kate came over from Newsource, it has seemed like there was no story, no beat, no topic she couldn’t master,” said Bohrman. “She has excelled at everything from filling in at the White House, to covering the Supreme Court and even anchoring. Kate will be a great partner with Dana Bash and our Capitol Hill team as we move in to the exciting and unpredictable 2012 election year.”

Previously, Bolduan served as general assignment correspondent, where she covered a wide-range of stories including the 2009 Christmas Day bombing attempt, landmark Supreme Court rulings on campaign finance in the case of Citizens United v. FEC, gun rights in McDonald v. City of Chicago, and religious freedom in Salazar v. Buono. She also provided coverage of the rollout of the government’s $787 billion stimulus plan in 2009.

Bolduan joined CNN in 2007 as a national correspondent for CNN Newsource, providing breaking news coverage and feature reports for more than 800 CNN Newsource affiliates. During her time with Newsource, Bolduan covered the 2008 presidential election and traveled throughout the United States covering other national headlines including the Minneapolis bridge collapse, O.J. Simpson armed robbery case and launches and landings of the retiring NASA space shuttle fleet.

Prior to joining CNN Newsource, Bolduan was a general assignment reporter for WTVD-TV in Raleigh, N.C. She began her television career as a production assistant for NBC News and MSNBC in Washington D.C.

Bolduan graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The George Washington University.

In an internal memo to CNN staffers, network president Jim Walton announces a change at the top of the Washington DC Bureau. CNN's DC Bureau Chief and head of Special Events, David Borman, will assume a new role as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for the network, reporting directly to Walton.

CNN Press Release: Brianna Keilar is joining CNN’s White House team, it was announced today by David Bohrman, senior vice president of programming and Washington bureau chief. Keilar begins her new assignment with the White House unit later this month.

“Brianna is an outstanding addition to the White House team,” said Bohrman. “She has distinguished herself with exceptional coverage of the 111th Congress and her new beat will better position the network for the 2012 election season.”

Previously, Keilar served as a congressional correspondent, responsible for covering the activities of both the U.S. House and Senate. In that role, she earned the National Press Foundation’s Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress for her fall 2008 coverage of the $700 billion bank bailout. Prior to covering Congress, Keilar served as a general assignment correspondent for the network, reporting on a wide-range of stories, including the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre, where she was the first CNN correspondent on the ground.

Keilar first joined the network as a correspondent for CNN Newsource, where she provided breaking news coverage and reported from the nation’s capital for approximately 800 CNN Newsource partner stations. She joined Newsource from CBS News where she served as an anchor, reporter and producer for a CBS newscast that aired on mtvU, MTV's college network. She was also a fill-in anchor on CBS News’ overnight newscast, Up to the Minute, and a freelance reporter for CBS Evening News Weekend Edition.

Prior to working for CBS, Keilar was a general assignment reporter in Yakima, Wash., for the CNN and CBS affiliate, KIMA-TV. During that same time, she also worked in radio as a morning show personality and weekend news reader. Keilar began her journalism career as a production assistant and intern at KTVU-TV, a CNN and FOX affiliate in San Francisco.

Keilar graduated Phi Beta Kappa with bachelor’s degrees in mass communications and psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Tom Bettag joins CNN Worldwide as senior executive producer of State of the Union with Candy Crowley and Reliable Sources, it was announced today by David Bohrman, SVP of Programming and Washington bureau chief. Bettag will oversee the Sunday public affairs programming lineup, effective immediately.

“Adding such a renowned producer as Tom to CNN’s lineup further reflects the network’s commitment to serious journalism,” said Bohrman. “Candy now will be a member of a very exclusive team of greats—such as Ted Koppel and Dan Rather—who have had the opportunity to work with Tom.”

In Bettag’s more than four decades in journalism, he has served as executive producer of CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, of ABC’s Nightline with Ted Koppel and of Koppel on Discovery on the Discovery Channel. Throughout his career he has earned six duPont-Columbia University Silver Baton Awards, three Overseas Press Club Awards and 30 Emmy Awards. In 2004, Bettag was honored with Quinnipiac University’s Fred Friendly Award, which recognizes those who have shown courage and forthrightness in preserving the rights of the First Amendment.

Bettag earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a graduate degree from Columbia University’s School of Journalism.

"We turned the corner tonight," Alex Wellen, CNN's Senior Executive Producer, Integrated Programming said in the control room shortly after King demonstrated the technology for the first time.

Wellen said that CNN had access to the entire "firehose" of Twitter data, as opposed to the limited amounts Twitter makes publicly available for search, and said that there were three elements that made the analysis successful: 1. massive amounts of data, 2. timing of that data, and 3. state-by-state geotagging of that data.

"All together, it gave us a 50,000 foot view of what the Twitter reaction was," he said.
