CNN en Español Celebrates 10th Anniversary

CNN en Español, the innovative and top-rated Spanish-language news network in Latin America, marks its 10th anniversary with a series of initiatives and programming throughout the year highlighting the events and personalities that have made major news in Latin America and throughout the world over the past decade.
Today, the network unveils a commemorative anniversary logo on air to mark 10 years of broadcasting that began on March 17, 1997, and now reaches more than 21 million Spanish speakers throughout Latin America, which includes 3.6 million in the United States.
“We are proud to commemorate our tenth anniversary, which marks a milestone in the history of Spanish-language television journalism,” says Christopher Crommett, the network’s senior vice president. “CNN en Español is the most trusted source for news among our loyal audience in Latin America and, increasingly, among Spanish speakers in the United States. And our reach even extends to Canada, Spain, and Japan where segments of our programming are aired. We are grateful for the confidence our audience has shown us for the past ten years, and we have laid the groundwork to serve our discerning audience even better in the future.”
Special programming will begin on Thursday, March 15, at 9 p.m. (ET) with 10 Years of CNN en Español- Latin America, hosted by Patricia Janiot, CNN en Español’s senior anchor. The program will highlight the most relevant events in Latin America from the past 10 years and include coverage from the hostage crisis at the Japanese embassy in Peru; the legal battle to extradite Pinochet from London; the destruction brought about by Hurricane Mitch, the devastating earthquake in Colombia and the floods in Venezuela; and coverage of the political races and issues in Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico and Venezuela.
The program also examines the future of Latin America through the eyes of CNN en Español correspondents, taking a look at what is to come in the next 10 years with respect to the global climate, energy crisis, social changes, expanding markets and new economic alliances throughout the region.
On Saturday, March 17, CNN en Español will present another special titled Latin America and the United States: Politics of Rancor.
A series of commemorative programming will continue with various specials each month discussing a variety of topics: April - business, May – sports, June – technology, July – entertainment, August – personal finance, September – health and family, October – global business, November – fashion, and December – global news.
