CNN en Español Launches New Monthly Feature 'Al Galope'

CNN en Español launched a new monthly feature on horse racing on Saturday. 'Al Galope' will continue to air on the fourth Saturday of each month and is hosted by the network's sport anchor Elizabeth Pérez and Francesca Cumani - who also hosts CNN International's monthly horse racing feature 'Winning Post'. CNN Press Release: Horse racing news will come to CNN en Español on Al Galope

Starting Saturday, June 30th at 9:00 pm (ET), CNN en Español will broadcast Al Galope, a new sports program that will present the highlights of horse racing. Jockey Francesca Cumani and Deportes CNN anchor Elizabeth Pérez will host Al Galope, an ideal show for fans of this sport where precision and tradition come together.  Al Galope will broadcast once a month, on the fourth Saturday of the month.

Few sports can harmonize the elegance and history like horse racing. Al Galope will offer coverage around this major equestrian sport where traditions unites with modern techniques. In each show, Al Galope will show what happens inside of the racetrack with stories of the greatest trainers, jockeys, horse owners and their business.  Al Galope is behind-the-scenes look into the world of horse racing, from the exquisite purebred to the training logistics, diet, and transportation of these great athletes throughout the world. Each show will go in depth in order to focus on what happens inside of the racetracks with the great masters, the trainers and the most important jockeys in the industry.

Al Galope’s first show on Saturday, June 30th at 9:00 pm (ET) will center on the Prix de Diane and Royal Ascot, which are two of the most renowned competitions in Europe. The Prix de Diane is considered the most stylish race in France that is celebrated yearly in the Chantilly racetrack. Expectations for fashion outside of the racetrack are almost as important as the purebreds that will be competing. The Prix de Diane, also known as the French Oaks, is the principal national race for three-year-old fillies and it is considered to be among the classic races in France.

Without a doubt, Royal Ascot is one of the most prestigious and famous races in the world. It is considered one of the best horse races because of the quality of its horses and jockeys, and Queen Elizabeth II frequently attends the race, arriving by carriage from Windsor Castle. This year, the two best horses in the world, Frankel and Black Caviar, will be among the competitors throughout the five-day competition.

Al Galope will debut on Saturday, June 30th at 9:00 pm (ET), and will re-air Sunday, July 1st at 3:30 am, 11:30 am, 2:30 pm and 11:30 pm (ET); Thursday, July 5th at 12:30 am (ET); Friday, July 6th at 1:30 pm (ET); and Saturday, July 7th at 8:30 am (ET).

CNN en Español London Olympics Coverage

CNN en Español has announced its coverage plans of the 2012 London Olympics. Details from CNN below.

CNN Press Release: CNN en Español broadcasts special coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games

Starting Monday, July 23th through Monday, August 13rd, CNN en Español will broadcast special coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Anchor Elizabeth Pérez will report live from the Olympic park in London and will cover the preparations, rehearsals and competitions, and will have interviews with the participants in this grand event, which will be featured during CNN en Español’s daily shows.

Sports anchors Luis Gerardo Bucci, Diego Bustos and Marcela Trucios will deliver analysis with daily summaries and statistics of the main sporting events and its athletes from Atlanta.

Moreover, starting this month, Encuentro, Directo USA, Panorama Mundial and CNN México: Perspectivas will include daily segments with complete coverage on the Olympics that will continue to air through the games.

CNN en Español’s special coverage will bring the latest information of the sporting events. In addition, the network will broadcast specials with some of the most important participants. There will be chronicles and anecdotes from their country of origin in special programs like “Tras el oro.”

CNN en Español’s viewers will learn about the different sporting disciplines, records and expectations of the contestants. At the same time, special guests, such as former athletes, will comment during the competitions.

This special coverage will count on an important web component on CNNEspanol.com and the network’s social media, giving information on the most important events, the behind the scenes, emblematic images and the curiosities around this historic competition.

Starting June through Monday, August 13, CNN en Español will dedicate its programming to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

CNN en Español Adds Elizabeth Pérez To Sports Team

Sports journalist Elizabeth Pérez is the latest catch for the expanding CNN en Español network. CNN's press release follows.

CNN Press Release: CNN en Español continues to expand its team of journalists, and as part of this process announces the hiring of Elizabeth Pérez as part of the network’s Sports team. Perez will be covering the latest and most relevant news in the world of sports throughout the daytime programming. This, in addition to the daily sports appointment Deportes CNN, hosted by Diego Bustos, airing Monday to Friday at 10:00 pm and 12:00 am (ET) and Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00 pm (ET).

“With the expansion of the network’s sports journalist team, now sports fans will not have to wait to receive the latest news about their favorite team or player,” said Cynthia Hudson, senior vice president and general manager of CNN en Español and Hispanic strategy for CNN/U.S. “Our viewers are assiduous sports fans, and we are pleased to bring, throughout the day, everything they want to know about this fascinating world with the hiring of a dynamic journalist such as Elizabeth.”.

Pérez joined CNN en Español after working as TV presenter for the sports segments on Telemundo News, based in Miami, where she was also invited as a guest reporter on the extreme sport show, Ritmo Deportivo.

Perez has covered significant sporting events such as NASCAR in Indianapolis, Indy300 in the Homestead Speedway, the Red Bull SoapBox race in St. Louis, The Air and Boat show in Ft. Lauderdale and the Smash Super Bowl party for the NFL. She has also interviewed relevant figures in the world of sports, music and arts such as Oscar de la Renta, Udonis Haslem, Shaquille O’Neal, Carl Lewis, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Emerson Fitipaldi, Miguel Cabrera, Shakira, David Bisbal, Daddy Yankee, Chayanne, Juanes, América Ferrera and Enrique Iglesias, among others.

In 2008, Perez received the highest award given by the National Academy of Arts and Science Television (NATAS) in the United States, the Emmy Award for Best on Camera News Talent, for her work at Telemundo News. She holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communications from Florida International University.
