CNN en Español Broadcasts Special Coverage of the 2012 Democratic and Republican National Conventions

CNN Press Release - Starting Monday, August 27th through Thursday, August 30th, CNN en Español will broadcast a special coverage of the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, hosted by anchors Juan Carlos Lopez, Fernando del Rincon and Carlos Montero. On Monday, September 3rd through Thursday, September 6th, the network will also broadcast a special coverage of the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, hosted by anchors Juan Carlos Lopez, Patricia Janiot and Lucia Navarro. In addition, correspondent Gustavo Valdes will be reporting from both conventions. Reporter Kay Guerrero will also be on hand to follow youth and student voters.

Throughout the coverage, key Democrats and Republicans will be speaking during the conventions. On Tuesday, August 28th, CNN en Español will broadcast New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s speech live. On Wednesday, August 29th, the network will broadcast vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan’s speech live at 9 p.m. (ET). Additionally, on Thursday, August 30th, the network will broadcast Senator Marco Rubio’s speech introducing governor Mitt Romney, and Mitt Romney’s speech live, thereafter.

Moreover, on Wednesday, September 5th, the network will broadcast former President Bill Clinton’s speech introducing President Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee. On Thursday, September 6th, the network will broadcast President Barack Obama’s speech live at 9 p.m. (ET).

At the same time, CNN en Español will be collaborating with CNN throughout the coverage with stories that follow youth and student voters. There will also be a special throughout CNN en Español’s programming called Voto Latino 2012 where anchors Juan Carlos Lopez, Fernando del Rincon and Patricia Janiot will be discussing the importance of the Hispanic vote in the 2012 presidential elections.

CNN en Español will broadcast the special coverage of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions starting Monday, August 27th through Thursday August 30th and Monday, September 3rd through Thursday, September 6th.

CNN Reveals the Winners of the 'Your Political Ticket' iReport Convention Contest

CNN Press Release - CNN revealed the winners of the 'Your Political Ticket' iReport contest, who will join the network at this year's political conventions.

The iReporters will receive an all-expense paid trip alongside a guest to attend the one of the conventions. Three will attend  the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, August 27-30, followed by the other three at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, September 3-6.

The winners will cover the conventions from a variety of angles, from first-person video commentary and on-air reporting, to photography coverage and interviews with convention attendees and local residents.

The winners are:

Alex Anderson
Plymouth, Minnesota

Anderson is a student at Hillsdale College, where he majors in History. He is also an intern for the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank based in Washington, D.C.





Matt Sky
New York, New York

Sky is a web consultant freelancer, puppeteer, and long-time contributor to iReport who tackles newsy issues with a funny twist. Sky, who considers himself an Independent, but leans liberal, says he's interested to see whether Republican voters can unite behind Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.





Elizabeth Lauten
Alexandria, Virginia

Lauten is a 29-year-old media consultant who has volunteered for every Republican presidential campaign since 2000. She has experience with print, broadcast, and online journalism, and says she bleeds "blood, sweat and politics."

CNN Plans Special Programming around Romney's VP Selection

CNN ADVISORY - CNN plans special programming Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. ET around presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s vice presidential selection. Lead political anchor Wolf Blitzer, along with Candy Crowley, John King and Gloria Borger will participate in the network’s special coverage.

Jim Acosta will be on the ground with the Romney campaign in Norfolk, Virginia.
