Observations

TVNewser reports on Headline News becoming HLN. The new tagline for the network will be "News and Views." No programming changes will come with this new name, however with the network changes comes two personnel departures.

Linda Stouffer's last day with Headline News was Sunday. Carrie Lee's last day with CNN Business News/Headline News was Tuesday.

In other news, Rusty Dornin has left CNN.

Oh, to the contrary--HLN's sure is planning programming changes very soon. For example, more chunks of the weekend schedule being eaten up with non-news shows, like "Clark Warren" starting January 3rd.

He's a talk radio host, and his hour long HLN show on weekends will be mostly taped highlights of him sitting in his radio studio taking phone calls. No--seriously. They're really going to make that a program on HLN. Brillant.

As for Linda Stouffer, for the last year or so, they've basically given her less and less airtime, pushing her off to weekends and now giving her the pink slip. It's pretty apparent that people like Linda, Miles, Kelly, and the other casualties were earning too much, since they almost all are veterans there. Meantime, CNN is disfiguring HLN into something barely recognizeable... hence not calling themselves "Headline News" anymore. Since they spend so little time on news these days.
    Pathetic.

Just hope that all of these fine journalists land somewhere where they're appreciated.

"Clark Howard" not "Clark Warren". He's quite popular in Atlanta - he even considered a run for mayor in 2010 before deciding family was more important (he has young kids).

RE: Clark Howard... I stand corrected on his name from my response above. I'm sure Mr. Howard's a fine guy, and I don't question his popularity in Atlanta, but like I said-- creating a whole show around him taking radio show calls....???? Does CNN/HLN seriously expect high ratings from that?

My point was simply that what used to be "Headline News" is gradually being morphed into something that doesn't serve that purpose anymore.

Perfect examples: "Not Just Another News Show"-- "News to Me" and even "DL Hughley" over at CNN.
It just looks like they're abandoning what most people always tuned in for, and replacing it with shows that even less will watch... Maybe these shows are cheaper to produce, but beyond that, I don't get the rationale. (?)

I hope HLN moves Showbiz to the 9pm hour.
That could really help. Lou Dobbs does not
fit with HLN. Geez Dobb should not even be
on CNN. Management really needs to keep an
eye on Dobbs, Campbell Brown and Rick Sanchez.
They need to stop making stuff up out of nothing.
HLN does need to add more news though. I hope
that also go to a Current TV format that would
allow HLN to run extended interviews and stories
that are not being covered much.

I miss the old days of Headline News, where you could tune in at any time of the day and get the news.
