'CNN TODAY' AND 'TALK ASIA' TAKE PRESTIGIOUS ASIAN TELEVISION AWARDS

CNN Press Release - 'CNN Today' and 'Talk Asia', two of CNN's flagship programs produced in the network's regional headquarters in Hong Kong, scooped prizes at the prestigious Asian Television Awards held yesterday in Singapore.

Overcoming extensive competition from across the region, ‘CNN Today’ was selected as Asia-Pacific’s Best News Program. Airing twice every weekday and anchored by Hugh Riminton and Kristie Lu Stout it features on-location reports from around Asia-Pacific and beyond, headline-making interviews and real time business updates. In 2008 special editions have focused on events including the Sichuan earthquake, Cyclone Nargis and the Mumbai bombings.

"This is a fantastic achievement that further underlines the quality of CNN International’s output from the Asia-Pacific region," said Tony Maddox, Executive Vice President and Managing Director CNN International. "CNN Today is agenda-setting viewing for our audience who demand credible, impartial and up-to-the-minute news that shapes their business day.”

Hosted by Anjali Rao, CNN's weekly half-hour chat show ‘Talk Asia’ took the Asian Television Award for‘Best Talk Show’. Every week it explores the personalities behind the newsmakers in the fields of arts, politics, sports, business and more. “The award for Talk Asia is timely recognition for a program that has featured a formidable series of guests including President Clinton, Yao Ming, Jackie Chan and Ban Ki-Moon in the past few months alone” Tony Maddox added.

The two awards in Singapore come in the wake of CNN’s content ownership strategy that has seen the global deployment of ten new correspondents and more than forty newsgathering staff in 2008.
